Six to Receive CrossingPoints Certification in Occupational Studies

The CrossingPoints Certificate in Occupational Studies is a three-year non-degree certificate program in the College of Education for young adults with intellectual disabilities who are pursuing postsecondary education at The University of Alabama. This is the first group of students to earn this certification.

Randall Outstanding Undergraduate Research Awards 2022

This month 26 students from a wide spectrum of departments were honored as leaders among undergraduate researchers at the Capstone through the Randall Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award Program. The honorees have all conducted significant scholarly research and were nominated by faculty and staff research directors. A distinguished panel of UA research faculty and past recipients of the Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award selected the winners, who were honored at a luncheon.

50 New Students Chosen For The Blackburn Institute

Each spring semester, 50 new students are selected for The Blackburn Institute at The University of Alabama, an organization dedicated to developing leaders who understand the challenges facing the state of Alabama and the nation and who are committed to serving as agents of positive change. This year, the Institute is pleased to welcome this new Class of 2022. During their time with the Institute, students will develop and implement a civic engagement project, learn more about the state of Alabama and grow as leaders through engagement and experience. Upon graduation, students will transition into Blackburn Fellows, where they will continue to answer their call to action throughout their lives.

The purpose of the Alumni Student Award is to honor seniors who have excelled in academics and extracurricular activities, shown strength of character and maturity, and displayed exceptional hospitality toward guests and friends of the UA. Nominations are accepted from student organizations, deans, department heads, University administrators, alumni, faculty and friends of the University. The selection committee for the Alumni Student Award and the Outstanding Senior Award consists of students, alumni and faculty. The students receiving the award are Montana Fouts and Nicholas Hayes.

Winner of Louis Dale Medal in Mathematics

Mathematics student Troy Roberts is the winner of the inaugural Louis Dale Medial in Mathematics. Named after distinguished University of Alabama alumnus Dr. Louis Dale, the award is presented to an upper-level mathematics student who displays excellence in their work. Dale was the first African American doctoral student in the UA mathematics department who went on to become the first tenure-track professor in the mathematics department at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He taught there for more than 40 years, retiring in 2015 after serving as the first African American associate provost and first African American vice president.

The Crenshaw Leadership Academy was established in 2005 to provide leadership development opportunities to upper level HES students. Alabama Law Wins National Tax Moot Court Competition

Last week, Alabama Law Tax Moot Court team members Tanner Ary, Emily Ellis, and Curtis Graves-coached by Clay Staggs ('96)-were named the overall champions at the Florida State Bar's National Tax Moot Court competition in Miami. In addition to winning the competition, the team was awarded runner-up for best brief, and Curtis Graves finished as the runner-up for the best individual oralist.

McKinley Marksmanship Award Competition Winners 2022

The competition, named and endowed by distinguished Alabama Corps of Cadets alumnus John K. McKinley, consists of rifle and pistol matches. It is open to both contracted and non-contracted cadets who meet certain minimum criteria with regards to their GPA, fitness scores and good standing in the ROTC Program.
