Last week, Alabama Law Tax Moot Court team members Tanner Ary, Emily Ellis, and Curtis Graves-coached by Clay Staggs ('96)-were named the overall champions at the Florida State Bar's National Tax Moot Court competition in Miami. In addition to winning the competition, the team was awarded runner-up for best brief, and Curtis Graves finished as the runner-up for the best individual oralist.

The University of Alabama Department of Art and Art History presents the Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition of Ashlee Rene Thompson, April 1 through May 6, 2022. The exhibition, titled Fragments, will be held at The University of Alabama Gallery in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center, with a reception for the artist on First Friday, April 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

The competition, named and endowed by distinguished Alabama Corps of Cadets alumnus John K. McKinley, consists of rifle and pistol matches. It is open to both contracted and non-contracted cadets who meet certain minimum criteria with regards to their GPA, fitness scores and good standing in the ROTC Program.

PhD Candidate Elizabeth Naranjo Hayes has been teaching French and Spanish at The University of Alabama during her doctoral degree, and she has received a perfect 5/5 rating on the popular website Rate My Professor. She was interviewed by Alice Magazine (March 2022) to discuss it, as well as to offer advice to students.

The University of Alabama's Women's Wheelchair Basketball team defeated Illinois 50-48 on a buzzer beater at the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Championship tournament March 19. The victory marks the eighth overall and third consecutive national championship for the team.

University of Alabama cheerleading took home its third Division 1A all-girl national championship at the 2022 UCA and UDA College Cheerleading and Dance Team National Championship. The Crimson Tide's co-ed squad also earned a runner-up finish and the dance team finished sixth.

In December 2021, Lt Beckman graduated from UA with a BA in Criminal Justice, and commissioned in the United States Air Force as a Security Forces Officer.

The University of Alabama, in partnership with the Black Faculty and Staff Association, will host the 2022 Dr. Trudier Harris Black Scholar Bowl, Sat. Feb. 5. Five students will compete for UA. Hosted by UA's Black Faculty and Staff Association, this year's event will feature teams from The University of Alabama, Stillman College, Alabama State University, Alabama A&M and several community colleges competing in a series of questions centered on Black history.

In December 2021, Lt Jenkins graduated from UA with a BS in Mechanical Engineering, and commissioned in the United States Air Force as a Developmental Engineer.

A total of 11,979 students enrolled during the fall 2021 term at The University of Alabama were named to the dean's list with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president's list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's).

A total of 453 students enrolled in UA Early College during the fall 2021 term at The University of Alabama were named to the director's list with an academic record of 3.6 (or higher).

This spring, 165 University of Alabama students are receiving hands-on, innovative and advanced educational experiences with dozens of companies and organizations across the United States through UA's Cooperative Education Program during the spring 2022 semester. In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student. While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.

During fall 2021, the MAcc students evaluated a recently published FASB exposure draft, "Proposed Accounting Standards Update - Fair Value Measurement (Topic 820): Fair Value Measurement of Equity Securities Subject to Contractual Sale Restrictions."
