Every year, graduating Blackburn students transition into Blackburn Fellows to continue their call to action for the rest of their lives. This year, the Blackburn Institute is pleased to recognize the 37 students who will transition into Fellows after their graduation this May or August. The Institute applauds their dedication to the Blackburn mission and values of diversity of opinion, call to action, intergenerational networking, and a lifetime commitment to service over the duration of their college career.

University of Alabama student Kittson Hamill of Huntsville is the recipient of the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration Ernest F. Hollings Undergraduate Scholarship.

Blue Key is a premier honor society that recognizes college students for balanced and all-around excellence in scholarship, leadership and service.

The Cleophus Thomas Award is awarded by the the Black Faculty and Staff Association to the graduating seniors with the highest academic standing honoring the legacy of the first Black SGA president of The University of Alabama.

The University of Alabama honored the achievement of numerous students, faculty and staff during the annual Tapping on the Mound ceremony April 8.

The CrossingPoints Certificate in Occupational Studies is a three-year non-degree certificate program in the College of Education for young adults with intellectual disabilities who are pursuing postsecondary education at The University of Alabama. This is the first group of students to earn this certification.

Each spring semester, 50 new students are selected for The Blackburn Institute at The University of Alabama, an organization dedicated to developing leaders who understand the challenges facing the state of Alabama and the nation and who are committed to serving as agents of positive change. This year, the Institute is pleased to welcome this new Class of 2022. During their time with the Institute, students will develop and implement a civic engagement project, learn more about the state of Alabama and grow as leaders through engagement and experience. Upon graduation, students will transition into Blackburn Fellows, where they will continue to answer their call to action throughout their lives.

The University of Alabama's Department of Art and Art History presents the 2022 Senior BFA Thesis Exhibition, May 3-7, 2022, in the Sella-Granata Art Gallery, in Woods Hall on UA campus.

This month 26 students from a wide spectrum of departments were honored as leaders among undergraduate researchers at the Capstone through the Randall Outstanding Undergraduate Research Award Program. The honorees have all conducted significant scholarly research and were nominated by faculty and staff research directors. A distinguished panel of UA research faculty and past recipients of the Burnum Distinguished Faculty Award selected the winners, who were honored at a luncheon.

The Crimson Tide Wheelchair Tennis team defeated San Diego State at the U.S. Tennis Association Collegiate National Championships April 16 in Orlando, Florida, winning its sixth consecutive national championship and seventh in program history.

Benedetta Moresco Crowned 2022 SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year. Since 2010, Alabama has produced three SEC Scholar-Athlete of the Year recipients for a combined six honors

The UA Collegiate Ballroom Competition Team recently competed in its first national competition and brought home more than 20 top three finishes including 10 first place ribbons.

The purpose of the Alumni Student Award is to honor seniors who have excelled in academics and extracurricular activities, shown strength of character and maturity, and displayed exceptional hospitality toward guests and friends of the UA. Nominations are accepted from student organizations, deans, department heads, University administrators, alumni, faculty and friends of the University. The selection committee for the Alumni Student Award and the Outstanding Senior Award consists of students, alumni and faculty. The students receiving the award are Montana Fouts and Nicholas Hayes.

Alabama Men's Tennis Senior Patrick Kaukovalta Selected For SEC Community Service Team Since 2018, the Crimson Tide senior has been involved in several projects including Habitat for Humanity and Project Angel Tree

Alabama's Loudmilla Bencheikh was named to the Southeastern Conference Women's Tennis Community Service Team, the league office announced on Wednesday.

The purpose of Omicron Delta Kappa is to recognize those students who have attained high standards in collegiate activities, to inspire others to strive for similar attainments, and to bring together students in all areas of college life: scholarship; athletics; campus or community service; social and religious activities; campus government; journalism, speech and mass media; and creative and performing arts.

Anderson Society, a senior honorary, was founded at UA in 1975 and seeks to promote excellence in student leadership and service as well as high academic standards. Each year, 24 members are selected in recognition of their significant contributions to the University.

Mortar Board, a national honor society for men and women, is based on leadership, scholarship and service. It is one of the highest honors that can be granted to seniors. Members must display outstanding dedication to service and leadership.

The University of Alabama Table Tennis Association wins state championships.

Mathematics student Troy Roberts is the winner of the inaugural Louis Dale Medial in Mathematics. Named after distinguished University of Alabama alumnus Dr. Louis Dale, the award is presented to an upper-level mathematics student who displays excellence in their work. Dale was the first African American doctoral student in the UA mathematics department who went on to become the first tenure-track professor in the mathematics department at The University of Alabama at Birmingham. He taught there for more than 40 years, retiring in 2015 after serving as the first African American associate provost and first African American vice president.

Alabama's Polly Mack (women's golf) and Tyler Sesvold (men's swimming and diving) have been named finalists for the Southeastern Conference Men's and Women's Scholar-Athletes of the Year and the H. Boyd McWhorter Postgraduate Scholarships, the league office announced Monday.

The Crenshaw Leadership Academy was established in 2005 to provide leadership development opportunities to upper level HES students. Each year, faculty-selected fellows work with faculty mentors on activities to help them think creatively, communicate effectively, motivate and influence others, act ethically, use competent business and social etiquette skills, and make constructive community-oriented decisions.

Jules Bates, a Randall Research Scholar and UA Honors College student from Pace, Florida, studying chemical engineering is the 60th UA student to receive the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship.

Last week, Alabama Law Tax Moot Court team members Tanner Ary, Emily Ellis, and Curtis Graves-coached by Clay Staggs ('96)-were named the overall champions at the Florida State Bar's National Tax Moot Court competition in Miami. In addition to winning the competition, the team was awarded runner-up for best brief, and Curtis Graves finished as the runner-up for the best individual oralist.

The University of Alabama Department of Art and Art History presents the Master of Fine Arts thesis exhibition of Ashlee Rene Thompson, April 1 through May 6, 2022. The exhibition, titled Fragments, will be held at The University of Alabama Gallery in the Dinah Washington Cultural Arts Center, with a reception for the artist on First Friday, April 1 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.

The competition, named and endowed by distinguished Alabama Corps of Cadets alumnus John K. McKinley, consists of rifle and pistol matches. It is open to both contracted and non-contracted cadets who meet certain minimum criteria with regards to their GPA, fitness scores and good standing in the ROTC Program.

PhD Candidate Elizabeth Naranjo Hayes has been teaching French and Spanish at The University of Alabama during her doctoral degree, and she has received a perfect 5/5 rating on the popular website Rate My Professor. She was interviewed by Alice Magazine (March 2022) to discuss it, as well as to offer advice to students.

The University of Alabama's Women's Wheelchair Basketball team defeated Illinois 50-48 on a buzzer beater at the National Intercollegiate Wheelchair Basketball Championship tournament March 19. The victory marks the eighth overall and third consecutive national championship for the team.

The University of Alabama established Premier Awards to recognize UA students, faculty, and staff who exemplify the highest standards of scholarship, service, leadership, and character. Each of the six awards honors the legacies of activists, academics, and individuals who made important intellectual and inspirational contributions to their communities.
