Alabama Gymnastics Once Again Totals Double-Digit WCGA Scholastic All-America Honors

Alabama gymnastics was named a 2021 Scholastic All-America team and saw 14 gymnasts earn individual Scholastic All-America honors, the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) revealed this week. The Crimson Tide, which finished fifth in the nation last season, was one of just four teams to advance to the 2021 NCAA Championships Semifinals to also post a team grade point average of 3.6-or-better, earning a 3.61. It also marks the 16th year in a row that Crimson Tide gymnastics has posted a team GPA of 3.4 or better.

Alabama Athletics Leads the Nation With Six Academic All-America At-Large Honors

Alabama Athletics leads the nation with six Crimson Tide student-athletes earning a place on the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America At-Large Teams, the College Sports Information Directors Association announced Friday. Swimmers Cade Auerbach, Derek Maas and Nicholas Perera earned spots on the men's team, while tennis player Alba Cortina Pou, rower Izzie Gonzales and swimmer Morgan Liberto earned the honor for the women.

Jones and Dickerson named to 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Football First Team

Alabama's Mac Jones and Landon Dickerson were both named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Football First Team, while Jones was named the Football Academic All-American of the Year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Monday. The duo earned the elite scholastic honors after helping lead the Crimson Tide to its 18th national football title and 28th Southeastern Conference championship during the 2020 season. Alabama is one of just three schools, along with Boise State and Coastal Carolina, to have more than one player earn first-team honors. The Crimson Tide is also the only team to make the College Football Playoff and have a player earn Academic All-America recognition from this past season.

Alabama Places Five on 2021 CoSIDA Academic All-District Softball Team

Five Alabama softball players were selected to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District softball team, including Elissa Brown, Montana Fouts, Bailey Hemphill, Alexis Mack and Kaylee Tow. The CoSIDA Academic All-District distinction is the fourth-straight for Hemphill, third-straight for Tow and first for Brown, Fouts and Mack. The five honorees are the Crimson Tide's most since 2012. The slate increases Alabama softball's all-time total to 56 accolades, including multiple honorees in each of the last six seasons. With their selection, the five advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America voting, with Division 1 winners to be announced Thursday, July 29. The five softball players bumped Alabama's 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honorees to 10 so far this year, joining Mac Jones and Landon Dickerson (football), Madelyn St. Germain (volleyball), Jordan Lewis (women's basketball) and Chase Lee (baseball). Alabama Athletics Leads SEC with 151 Student-Athletes on Spring Academic Honor Roll

For the sixth year in a row, The University of Alabama led the Southeastern Conference's Spring Academic Honor Roll, earning 151 accolades, the league office announced Thursday. The Crimson Tide's women's track and field and rowing teams led the way with 35 and 33 honorees, respectively. The women's track and field total ranked third most of any program in the SEC this spring. Alabama also led the conference in men's tennis honorees with 12 and women's golf recipients with eight.

Alabama's Chase Lee Selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV Baseball Team

Alabama junior reliever Chase Lee was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV First Team for baseball, the organization announced Thursday. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances. As a first-team selection, Lee now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be voted on from July 6-13 with the winners being announced in late July.

UA team named Year Three Champion in EcoCAR Mobility Challenge

The University of Alabama team of 65 students spanning a variety of majors from engineering to communications and business took home first place for year three of the automotive engineering competition. The four-year EcoCAR Mobility Challenge tasks student teams at 11 universities with improving a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer's fuel efficiency by incorporating a hybrid-electric powertrain and optimizing its operation using connected and automated vehicle features. During the third year of competition, teams switched their focus from design and integration to development and performance.

A total of 11,813 students enrolled during the Spring Semester 2021 at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

UA Students Participate in Summer 2021 Cooperative Education

This summer, 180 University of Alabama students are receiving hands-on, innovative and advanced educational experiences with dozens of companies and organizations across the United States through UA's Cooperative Education Program for summer 2021. In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student. While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.
