Alabama's Mac Jones and Landon Dickerson were both named to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-America Division I Football First Team, while Jones was named the Football Academic All-American of the Year, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced Monday. The duo earned the elite scholastic honors after helping lead the Crimson Tide to its 18th national football title and 28th Southeastern Conference championship during the 2020 season. Alabama is one of just three schools, along with Boise State and Coastal Carolina, to have more than one player earn first-team honors. The Crimson Tide is also the only team to make the College Football Playoff and have a player earn Academic All-America recognition from this past season.

Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Awards offer U.S. students the opportunity to serve in an English classroom overseas assisting the teacher and exchanging culture with the people of the host country.

Five Alabama softball players were selected to the 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District softball team, including Elissa Brown, Montana Fouts, Bailey Hemphill, Alexis Mack and Kaylee Tow. The CoSIDA Academic All-District distinction is the fourth-straight for Hemphill, third-straight for Tow and first for Brown, Fouts and Mack. The five honorees are the Crimson Tide's most since 2012. The slate increases Alabama softball's all-time total to 56 accolades, including multiple honorees in each of the last six seasons. With their selection, the five advance to the national ballot for Academic All-America voting, with Division 1 winners to be announced Thursday, July 29. The five softball players bumped Alabama's 2020-21 CoSIDA Academic All-District IV honorees to 10 so far this year, joining Mac Jones and Landon Dickerson (football), Madelyn St. Germain (volleyball), Jordan Lewis (women's basketball) and Chase Lee (baseball). For the sixth year in a row, The University of Alabama led the Southeastern Conference's Spring Academic Honor Roll, earning 151 accolades, the league office announced Thursday. The Crimson Tide's women's track and field and rowing teams led the way with 35 and 33 honorees, respectively. The women's track and field total ranked third most of any program in the SEC this spring. Alabama also led the conference in men's tennis honorees with 12 and women's golf recipients with eight.

Alabama junior reliever Chase Lee was selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District IV First Team for baseball, the organization announced Thursday. The CoSIDA Academic All-America program recognizes the nation's top student-athletes for their combined academic and athletic performances. As a first-team selection, Lee now advances to the CoSIDA Academic All-America ballot. Academic All-America honorees will be voted on from July 6-13 with the winners being announced in late July.

The University of Alabama team of 65 students spanning a variety of majors from engineering to communications and business took home first place for year three of the automotive engineering competition. The four-year EcoCAR Mobility Challenge tasks student teams at 11 universities with improving a 2019 Chevrolet Blazer's fuel efficiency by incorporating a hybrid-electric powertrain and optimizing its operation using connected and automated vehicle features. During the third year of competition, teams switched their focus from design and integration to development and performance.

A total of 11,813 students enrolled during the Spring Semester 2021 at The University of Alabama were named to the Dean's List with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the President's List with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's). The UA Dean's and President's lists recognize full-time undergraduate students. The lists do not apply to graduate students or undergraduate students who take less than a full course load.

Four University of Alabama students have received the Benjamin A. Gilman International Scholarship to participate in study abroad programs during the 2021-2022 academic year.

The University of Alabama's Model UN team moved up 10 spots in the 2020-2021 North American College Model U.N. World Division rankings. UA ascended to No. 15 after earning the Outstanding Large Delegation at the HallMUN virtual Model UN conference in November and other awards throughout the year.

As a member of SAAC, Rogers helped organize volunteer efforts with a Night to Shine, Project Angel Tree and Alberta Head Start. Alabama soccer's Kat Rogers was one of 14 student-athletes named to the SEC Community Service Team for soccer. The junior midfielder was recognized for going above and beyond in her efforts to give back to the community.

In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student. While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.

The University of Alabama recently chose 45 students for the new class of Capstone Men and Women. Capstone Men and Women are students selected to serve as official ambassadors of The University of Alabama. Originally named the Crimson Girls in 1962, the organization accepted its first male members in 1976 and changed its name to the Crimson Girls and Capstone Men. In 1991, the name of the group was changed to Capstone Men and Women.

A total of 66 University of Alabama student-athletes earned a place on the Southeastern Conference Winter Academic Honor Roll, SEC Commissioner Greg Sankey announced Thursday. The Crimson Tide ranked first among schools that don't sponsor equestrian or rifle and sixth overall.

The University of Alabama recently selected 11 students as the 2021-2022 Ambassadors for the AMERICAN Cast Iron Pipe Company (ACIPCO) Engineering Career Development Center (ECDC). The Ambassadors have completed at least two of their work rotations and represent the ECDC at functions across UA's campus. They also serve as peer advisors for students seeking professional development and experience.

A University of Alabama student has received a Fulbright Student Research Award and three students have won Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship Awards for the 2021-2022 academic year. Fulbright is the most prestigious U.S. international exchange program, offering opportunities for students, scholars and professionals. The Fulbright Award of the U.S. Department of State offers one-year grants for independent study and research and for English teaching assistantships overseas. The highly competitive program selects approximately 1,500 award recipients from more than 11,000 applicants each year. UA has received national recognition as a Top Producing Institution for Fulbright U.S. Students for five of the last six years.

UA freshman Jacob Glidewell has been competing in mathematics competitions since eighth grade, constantly trying to push himself to do better and grow in his skill. This year, he has once again succeeded in his challenge by placing in the top 100 competitors of the Putnam Competition. The William Lowell Putnam Mathematical Competition is one of the most prestigious competitions for undergraduate students in the world. Now in its 81st year, the competition has nearly 1600 students competing from different institutions around the country.

The University of Alabama student body has elected a new executive council for 2021's Student Government Association. The SGA strives to promote a thriving campus through initiatives, events, and partnerships with many organizations. The SGA members are prepared to represent any concerns that come about in each student's lives.

Two exemplary pairs of Moral Forum students in the University of Alabama Honors College program competed in the final round of the fifteenth annual James P. Hayes, Jr. Moral Forum Debate Tournament on Wednesday, April 21. Six students received $5,000 in scholarships for their performance in the tournament. Moral Forum is an annual dialogue and debate program that involves extensive research as students prepare value-based case studies representing positions on each side of a controversial issue. This semester, students argued in support of and opposition to the statement: In order to be a more moral society, our federal and state governments should allow the use of the death penalty in cases of first-degree murder with aggravating factors. In teams of two, students conducted research, participated in seminar discussions, and constructed position statements that address both sides of the debate about the death penalty in preparation for two required preliminary debate rounds. Each team prepared for and argued both affirmative and negative sides of the same resolution.

The purpose of Omicron Delta Kappa is to recognize those students who have attained high standards in collegiate activities, to inspire others to strive for similar attainments, and to bring together students in all areas of college life: scholarship; athletics; campus or community service; social and religious activities; campus government; journalism, speech and mass media; and creative and performing arts.

Mortar Board is a premier national honor society for men and women, is based on leadership, scholarship and service. It is one of the highest honors that can be granted to seniors. Members must display outstanding dedication to service and leadership.The University of Alabama's Hypatia Chapter is one of the oldest chapters in the nation. Only a select few students on each campus are invited to join this esteemed society. Mortar Board members are presented with the opportunity to join a diverse group of students from different disciplines and interests.

University of Alabama student Ann Williams has received a Boren Scholarship for the study of languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests and underrepresented in study abroad. Boren Scholarships, an initiative of the National Security Education Program, provide funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate students to study less commonly taught language in such regions as Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Latin America and the Middle East.

The University of Alabama National Alumni Association recognized several members of the 2021 graduating class during its recent Alumni Brunch in the Bryant Conference Center. Each year, the National Alumni Association honors outstanding seniors who have demonstrated strong character and achievement while attending The University of Alabama. The awards presented are a testament to the Alumni Association's pride in these students.

The Cleophus Thomas Award is awarded to the graduating seniors with the highest academic standing honoring the legacy of the first Black SGA president of The University of Alabama.

Even with the challenges caused by a global pandemic, undergraduate students at The University of Alabama rigorously pursued research and creative avenues outside the classroom, and this year's Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (URCA) Conference showcased and recognized their efforts.
