Hosted by the UA Graduate School, Three Minute Thesis is a research communication competition that challenges graduate students to present a compelling oration on their research and its significance in just three minutes in language appropriate to a non-specialist audience.

University of Alabama student Aslan Chikovani, a first year masters student in piano performance studying under Dr. Edisher Savitski, recently competed and placed first in the Alabama State MTNA Young Artists Competition, also advancing to the division stage of the competition.

Senior Ibby Dickson was crowned Miss University of Alabama 2023 during the Nov. 5 competition held at the Bama Theater in downtown Tuscaloosa.

Micah Presley, a recent graduate of The University of Alabama, has received a John S. McCain Strategic Defense Fellowship through the U.S. Department of Defense.

Student-led classic rock cover band Midnight Steel was named the Best Band in Tuscaloosa 2022 after winning the first-ever Battle of the Bands. Along with the title, the band won a $2,000 cash prize. Created by the Student Government Association, the fundraiser garnered nearly $7,500 for the Joe Espy Needs Based Scholarship that helps UA students alleviate financial hardships. Organizers couldn't be more grateful for its success. Midnight Steel, whose members include Chris Campisi (singer), Brett Holmes (drummer), Aaron Michaels (lead guitarist), Trevor O'Connor (rhythm guitarist) and Matthew Stumpf (bass guitarist), formed in September 2021 and performed their first gig just two weeks later. They've played manyl local venues and in Birmingham and were thrilled to get as far as they did in the fundraiser. The Battle of the Bands competition began with bands applying in July. Round 1 voting took place in September through the SGA's Instagram reels. Those winners moved on to Round 2, which was a live show at Druid City Social on Sept. 29. Those four winners performed on Oct. 20 for the final round.

Congratulations to the 2022-2023 Freshman Forum cohort. These students will be continuing the tradition of over 60 years of leadership growth for University of Alabama Freshmen.

Five students were named to the 2022 UA Homecoming Court. The Homecoming Queen was named during the annual Homecoming pep rally and bonfire Oct. 21.

University of Alabama student entrepreneur Brian Henderson won second place in the 2022 Southeastern Conference Student Pitch Competition, hosted by the E. J. Ourso College of Business at Louisiana State University.

Taheerah Mujahid was awarded the highest level of the University of Alabama's McNair Fellowship, the Capstone McNair Fellowship, which includes five years of support for doctoral students.

The University of Alabama's Rural Health Scholars Program recently accepted 11 students from around the state studying to become physicians with plans to practice in rural Alabama communities.

A total of 383 students enrolled during summer semester 2022 at The University of Alabama were named to the dean's list with an academic record of 3.5 (or above) or the president's list with an academic record of 4.0 (all A's).

The University of Alabama awarded over 1,400 degrees during its summer commencement ceremonies on August 6, 2022. This fall, 195 University of Alabama students are receiving hands-on, innovative and advanced educational experiences with dozens of companies and organizations across the United States through UA's Cooperative Education Program during the fall 2022 semester. In the Cooperative Education Program, students alternate periods of full-time study with periods of full-time employment. This program offers work related to the academic major or career interests of each student. While in school, students carry regular course schedules. While on co-op, they work with professionals in their fields who supervise their training and work. At work, co-op students earn competitive salaries and may receive benefit packages in addition to valuable job experience. Participants maintain their full-time student status while at work and have priority registration status each semester through graduation.

University of Alabama student Nikolai Rura was selected for the Critical Language Scholarship Spark program to study Mandarin.

Alabama Athletics Places 132 Student-Athletes on SEC Spring Academic Honor Roll. For the seventh year in a row, the Crimson Tide ranks among the top-two in the Southeastern Conference in terms of Spring Academic Honor Roll accolades.

UA Student Sam Robson received the Rising Star of the Year Award from the Andrew Goodman Foundation.

In August 2022, 2LT Phillips graduated from UA with a BA in Criminal Justice and a minor in Public Relations and commissioned into the Alabama Army National Guard as a Field Artillery Officer.
